YOON SAN-HA has been in the industry longer than most people realise. He joined Fantagio as a trainee in his early teens, debuted as the youngest member of ASTRO in 2016, and spent years building a discography as both a group member and part of the sub-unit MOONBIN&SANHA before stepping out as a solo artist. His debut mini-album, DUSK, arrived in August 2024 as a record that treated confusion as material, sitting inside the question of who he was outside of a group context rather than rushing past it.

NO REASON arrives ten months after CHAMELEON – his second record that made its case through versatility, shape-shifting across sounds and registers with a concept broad enough to hold contradictions. The third mini-album takes the opposite position entirely. Five tracks and a single premise the title states without elaboration: no reason needed. It's a smaller proposition; it's also the harder one to pull off.

That might sound passive, but the record doesn't feel it. He was involved from the planning stage, shaping the intention behind the music as much as the sound itself, and that investment shows. Rather than assembling tracks around a theme, NO REASON plays more like a documentation of where he is right now, what he sounds like when nobody's asking him to be anything in particular, and what happens when being unfiltered becomes enough.

The focus track, "IDK ME," is where that idea gets its fullest expression. Built on brass, heavy bass and groovy percussion, it's a hybrid pop cut that opens from a position most artists would save for a bridge: I don't even know myself. It's a starting point, with the argument being that self-knowledge isn't something you arrive at before moving forward. You figure it out in motion. His vocals have developed since those earlier releases, and "IDK ME" gives them exactly the right amount of space.

The album surrounds it with tracks that hold the same tension without resolving it too neatly. The opener is pop-punk running on instinct. "If We" draws on 90s R&B to sit inside the particular discomfort of a breakup that ended the only way it ever could, and still turns it over. "+1" shifts the sonics to warm country pop, reframing the difficult periods not as losses but as accumulation – minus stacking up, until it becomes plus. "demo" closes without ceremony: minimal production, exposed vocals, the sound of someone who has decided that being unfiltered is a valid final form.

Artists who work differently, think differently, and apparently keep him thinking too.

I see "NO REASON" as the definitive opening statement for this album. It captures that inexplicable urge to do something for no reason and the desire to be 100% authentic, without any pretension. Sonically, the track is very intuitive and high-energy, which I believe perfectly sets the tone and direction for the entire project.

"IDK ME" is a track that's very close to my heart. It's about acknowledging that even I don't know myself and declaring that I'll keep moving forward just as I am.

"If We" is a song that captures the lingering emotions following a breakup. I wanted to calmly express the feelings that 'what ifs' bring when things haven't quite been resolved yet. At the same time, it reflects the acceptance of reality, knowing that things would ultimately turn out the same way even if I look back, so I think it's a track where various conflicting emotions coexist.

"+1" is a song about how even difficult moments in life were meaningful in hindsight. I sang it with the hope that its warmth would provide comfort to those who listen to it.

I believe "demo" is the most candid song on this album. It captures me exactly as I am – not the polished version but the unfiltered version. I believe even unrefined emotions or thoughts are meaningful in their own way, so I tried to capture them as plainly as possible.
