How Matin Kim Became Your Favorite Idol’s Favorite Fashion Brand

By Andrea Sacal

There is a particular kind of Seoul cool that looks like you didn't try too hard despite the outfit almost certainly proving otherwise. Matin Kim has mastered that formula. Distressed knits, oversized jackets, tiny tops, silver hardware, roomy denim and that instantly recognizable metal logo have helped turn the Korean label into one of K-fashion's biggest go-to staples. The brand’s trend-conscious styles remain comfortable enough to exist in everyday life, but in reality, Matin Kim’s clothes are for someone who wants to look cool without looking like they spent 45 minutes deciding how to achieve it.

TWICE's MOMO is the latest idol to enter the Matin Kim universe, fronting its Fall 2026 “IN MY COLOR” collection.

She follows NCT's JENO, who starred in the brand's “No Rush!” Summer campaign, while IVE's Liz and aespa's Ningning have also appeared in recent seasonal campaigns. At this point, Matin Kim is building an idol roster large enough to conquer runways in Seoul, Milan, and Paris.

Matin Kim’s design language mixes minimalism with strategically rough edges. Silhouettes can be oversized or cropped, denim comes distressed, knitwear looks slightly lived-in and utilitarian details interrupt otherwise clean pieces. The palette often stays neutral, allowing texture, proportions and metallic branding to do the talking.

From its iconic Matin Kim-branded baby tee to its recent scribbled baseball-inspired collaboration with LG TWINS, the edgy lifestyle label is crafting K-pop’s favorite looks for fans and idols alike, and doing so at uncommon accessible price points. When an idol wears Matin Kim, the distance between admiration and purchase can become almost immediate.

South Korean rapper JENO bravely put the brand’s accessible formula under an international spotlight, seeing a striking pay-off earlier this year.

For its “No Rush” campaign, Matin Kim avoided transforming the NCT member into some unrecognizable high-fashion character. Instead, the clothes amplified qualities already associated with his off-duty image: relaxed, masculine and effortlessly streetwear-driven. Distressed knit T-shirts, a cotton zip-up, graphic layers and wide Bermuda shorts built a look that captured JENO’s iconic casual cool. Matin Kim described the campaign as bringing JENO's own presence together with the brand's rougher sensibility. The response was immediate as cumulative sales for Matin Kim's Summer 2026 season rose around 150% compared with the previous year. Participation is central to K-pop fandoms, and Matin Kim is allowing fans to join by easily wearing the same pieces as their favorite idols.

If JENO embodies Matin Kim's rougher, relaxed side, MOMO gives the brand an opportunity to push towards contrasting corners. The TWICE star has spent years switching between hyper-feminine stagewear, sensual silhouettes and an off-duty wardrobe, becoming the perfect match for a brand that has defined itself as multi-faceted.

The Fall 2026 “IN MY COLOR” campaign oozed MOMO's signature relaxed aura, while never leaving her undoubtable cool behind. From purple-washed cargos to branded knitwear and distressed bomber jackets, MOMO has packed color into Matin Kim’s everyday. Matin Kim’s global ambition didn't begin with MOMO or JENO. In 2025, the brand was already testing its reach beyond Korea through influencer campaigns spanning the U.S., U.K., Mexico and Poland, which generated 20 million views and helped drive a 121% increase in overseas sales. That momentum followed years of rapid growth, with sales climbing from ₩5 billion won in 2020 to ₩150 billion won in 2024. By the time JENO and MOMO entered the picture in 2026, Matin Kim wasn't looking to become an international K-fashion name, but already well on its way.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Matin Kim is that even the company admits there isn't one definitive Matin Kim look. Hago Haus strategy director, Lee Jun-seong, has explained that the label actively monitors feedback from its online community, incorporating suggestions about colors, products and restocks into future decisions. Rather than dictating taste exclusively from the top down, Matin Kim allows its audience to participate in shaping what the brand becomes. K-pop's greatest strength has always been turning audiences into communities, and Matin Kim has stumbled onto a remarkably similar relationship with fashion. Its customers don't simply consume the brand: they influence its reality.

Luxury fashion has spent the last several years discovering the enormous cultural power of K-pop. Matin Kim understands something slightly different: the real power isn't simply putting an idol in your clothes. It's making fans feel like those clothes belong in their world too. An idol can take a Matin Kim jacket, bag or distressed knit and give it an entirely different personality, while the brand remains accessible enough for fans to actually recreate the look rather than simply save it to a Pinterest board.

JENO can bring relaxed streetwear energy, MOMO can move between polished femininity and off-duty cool, and the clothes bend around both. That flexibility makes K-pop's increasingly individualistic approach to fashion a natural fit for the label. As Matin Kim continues moving beyond Seoul, idol ambassadors provide communities that already cross borders. For Matin Kim, K-pop isn't simply a shortcut to visibility. It's a natural extension of how the brand is structured: Korean at its core, global in its ambition and built for a generation that wants to participate rather than simply admire.
