For some, the placement of the KPOPWORLD Festival in the U.S. defines a chapter of growing global expansion. For HEYOON, it is already familiar, and represents a return to an era spent travelling abroad. Only this time, she comes alone. Reinvented.
Korea-born international performer HEYOON began not as an idol but as a dancer, instructing at the famous 1MILLION Dance Studio in Seoul. Music and dance had been a growing passion within her since age three, but it wasn’t until 2017 that she became a music artist publicly. She was representing South Korea as one of 14 original members of the global pop group Now United, a project built by Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller to showcase individuals with different nationalities and lives around the world.
Following the group’s debut in December, HEYOON promoted worldwide on TV shows such as The Voice Kids Russia and The Late Late Show with James Corden, and filmed music videos in various countries including South Korea, Mexico and India. By the time of HEYOON’s departure from the group in March 2023, they had released approximately 80 singles, many of which were remade in multiple languages. She is certainly no stranger to international appearances.
In October 2024, HEYOON signed to Universal Music Korea. It marked the start of a new era defined by her own intentions and creative vision, no longer that of a collective. Her debut single, “Pivot,” launched her solo career that November, and two more singles followed in early 2025 prior to the release of her first EP seriously unserious in April 2026. Four electronic-leaning club tracks, built around her move back to Seoul and a desire to let loose. Each contains a distinct “carpe diem” sentiment – to live in the moment, to escape overthinking and perfectionism, to dance.
What is unique about HEYOON’s sound is its rawness, its authenticity. For seriously unserious, she kept the original demo file names instead of turning them into polished song titles. The project was built on her experiences, her mentality, with all its messiness included, and the absolute refusal to filter any of it.
For her performance at the KPOPWORLD Festival, get ready to move. Her blending of hyperpop, electropop, EDM and dance-pop is high-energy and inspires movement, breaking away from the previous smooth R&B style of her releases with Now United. While she hasn’t performed in the U.S. since her solo debut, she has years of experience building a stage presence and exciting audiences from every corner of the world. “Addicted” is positively hypnotic. A dreamy, deep house dance track that leads the listener down a dangerous path of desire.
“Pivot (Feat. Armani White)” is HEYOON’s solo debut, and established the dance-pop shift in her musical identity. It is a lesson in self-acceptance, and experiments with surreal, dreamy visuals.
“swipe_feat_lou_garcia_v1.mp3” leads seriously unserious, and blends Brazilian rhythms with club-ready electronic pop alongside Brazilian singer Lou Garcia. Global influences, and a narrative that brags about the building of a global empire.
HEYOON has countless international stories behind her, and a life defined by movement. Now, she seeks to bring that movement into her music in the form of club anthems – and straight to the KPOPWORLD Festival stage in San Antonio.
