TUIDE have arrived. The seven-member group – SEOHEE, SEOYEON, ELENA, JIA, SAKI, SEAH, and YI HANI – officially debuted today as the first act under HYBE's ABD label, releasing their debut EP TUNE & PLAY alongside a showcase in Seoul.
The group's name derives from the phrase "Tune the tide," and the project frames itself around the idea of seven distinct musical voices finding a shared frequency. It's audible on the record. TUNE & PLAY moves across R&B, house, and UK garage with a looseness that suggests the members were given room to bring something of themselves to the material. Production across all five tracks is handled by GroovyRoom, who keep the sonic palette warm and unhurried throughout.
The EP's signature descriptor is "Soultronic" – a combination of soul-rooted melody and electronic texture that runs through the record as a through-line rather than a fixed genre tag. The result is nostalgic without being derivative, airy without losing momentum. Tracks like "Flip-Flop Girl" and "GRLS" hint at the group's range; the latter had already secured a spot in the Top 10 on Spotify's Global Music Video Chart for two consecutive weeks before the group had officially debuted, which is a notable early signal.
The lead single "SUN KISS" is built on a laid-back topline and a dynamic rhythm, and leans into confidence without forcing it – the kind of track that rewards patience rather than demanding immediate attention. Its music video, shot in Iceland, opens on a camper van crossing black earth before expanding into waterfalls, villages, and black sand beaches. It's cinematic in scope but relaxed in energy, which matches the song.
Within the group, SEOHEE settles naturally into a big sister role; ELENA brings a deep, R&B-suited vocal tone that stands out in the context of the fuller group sound. SEOYEON, younger sister of TWICE's JIHYO, arrives with an obvious frame of reference but will need the music to define her on her own terms – which, on first listen, it does.
ABD, which stands for "A Bold Dream," launched earlier this year as a HYBE label dedicated specifically to girl group production. The label is led by president Jiwon No, formerly Head of Artist Planning at PLEDIS, with Sung Soo Han – the producer behind SEVENTEEN, After School, IZ*ONE, and TWS – overseeing TUIDE's music, concept, and performance. That's a significant amount of institutional knowledge pointed at a single debut act. The label's founding philosophy, built around the idea of skipping the expected in favour of something less conventional, is either a creative statement or a branding exercise. TUNE & PLAY makes a reasonable case for the former.
The fact that TUIDE is ABD's first act makes today significant beyond a standard debut. HYBE has been vocal about ABD’s role around girl group production, and TUNE & PLAY is a credible opening to that chapter.
