The numbers don’t lie — KPop Demon Hunters is Netflix’s biggest animated hit ever. Since its June 20 debut, the original film has climbed relentlessly, racking up 26.3 million views and nearly 44 million hours watched, according to Netflix’s own data.

The story follows idol group and demon hunters HUNTR/X as they face off against rival supernatural boy-band the Saja Boys. The unique blend of K-pop energy and supernatural action has struck a nerve worldwide, dominating social media and music charts alike. In a stunning turn, songs from the movie’s fictional groups have topped Billboard’s global music charts, even outshining industry giants like BTS and BLACKPINK in recent weeks.

Netflix announced the milestone on July 29, confirming KPop Demon Hunters had surpassed previous animated hits like The Sea Beast and The Monkey King. At present, only one other animated film, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, appears alongside it in the streamer’s Top 10.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos weighed in on the film’s unprecedented success, praising its originality and the risks it took. “Original animation is very tough and has been struggling for years,” he told Deadline. “Getting it right matters. The storytelling matters. The innovation and animation itself matters. The fact that people are in love with this film and its music will keep it going for a long time.”

With fans clamoring for more, KPop Demon Hunters is clearly far from finished. Whether Netflix will greenlight a sequel remains unknown, but one thing is certain: this is only the beginning for HUNTR/X.
