ONE PACT's London Debut Was Worth the Wait

It's been just under a year since ONE PACT set their sights on Europe for their previous tour, "Next Horizon," and now they've finally made it to the UK. The group – consisting of members Jongwoo, Seongmin, TAG and Yedam (Jay Chang was absent due to his solo activities) – kicked off their [OUTSHINE] World Tour in London on 18 May at Islington Assembly Hall.

Prior to the show, the group announced they would be taking part in a Random Play Dance busking event the day before, in collaboration with Oraceon Dance Crew – a preview of what &heart, their fandom, could expect for the upcoming show. The four-piece entered Hyde Park to an eruption of screaming, whilst the impressive crowd that had gathered parted ways for them to take the floor. To say the UK &hearts had been waiting to see their idols was an understatement.

During the event, they performed a number of their own tracks, including "blind" and "YES, NO, MAYBE" – taken from their previous ONE PACK mini album – and "SANE," their current title track, as well as Seongmin and Yedam joining in on covering other dances.

Whilst the Random Play Dance continued, "PASSOUT" – the intense electronic-rap fusion from leader Jongwoo – began to play. It took him a second to realise it was his own track before he jumped into the centre of the crowd to dance with a fan. Everyone was hyped, and Jongwoo ended the section with a respectful handshake. It was a touching moment that made the busking event a genuinely special feat – one more groups could take note of. It added to the build-up of the concert experience whilst giving fans something they wouldn't typically get. About an hour in, ONE PACT encouraged everyone to get behind them for a group photo to mark the afternoon.

The next day, the boys took to Islington Assembly Hall. During the first ment of the night, TAG – the group's go-to English speaker – clarified they had designed the set-list to run from one song to the next, a mission that was definitely achieved. Each ment for a K-pop group typically gives the idols enough time to pause and catch their breath between challenging choreography and live vocals – but not ONE PACT. There was no time for rest during the scheduled 100 minutes. They had the power and energy to take on song after song after song.

Following the ment, they went into discography highlights: the disco-pop "100!" and house-tinged "B2U," both taken from their third mini album PINK CRUSH. It was excellent sequencing, leading naturally into a section featuring the heavier house cuts of their catalogue. The run from "blind" and "YES, NO, MAYBE" through "Pull Up" to "Deserved" was one of the biggest peaks of the night. The group briefly taught everyone the cheering guide for the track, and that tutorial paid off – the crowd erupted, almost battling the group for whose vocals were loudest. A moment that would be replicated again for "SANE."

TAG told &heart they couldn't believe they were finally in London, and that ONE PACT felt lucky to be there with them – a subtle segue into "lucky," as they brought out a Union Jack flag covered in fan messages. A moment of calm amongst the high-octane numbers that had dominated the set-list, though they refused to let the energy dip.

Jongwoo, Seongmin and Yedam then took to the stage for "Vampire," bringing back the electronic vibes as they danced and interacted with precise choreography amongst smoke and red lights. As the trio left the stage, TAG joined solo and praised his fellow members, saying he'd been watching them prepare for that performance – to which a fan called out "he's so cute" – before moving into a cover of "Creep" by Radiohead. The crowd was entranced by the group's main composer delivering an emotional ballad amongst spotlights and smoke, finishing by throwing a single red rose into the crowd.

Another highlight was "DO U FXXKING LOVE ME TOO," which had the group singing as confetti flew around the venue, closing out the show before the encore. As they left the stage, they kept fans singing the title through the quick intermission. The VCR began to play – a FaceTime call to Seongmin backstage. He said he doesn't speak English well but he loves the fans, before he and the group came out in their merch to perform "Never Stop," the live camera feed continuing on the backdrop as each member took turns posing with a selfie stick and filming &heart as they watched it play back on screen.

As the final moments approached, Yedam let the crowd know he wanted to stay for extra days but they had to move on to the next city – prompting the other members to hype him up before he exclaimed he loves London, &heart and fish and chips. TAG then shared a story about him and Jongwoo going out for fish and chips, only to bump into Seongmin and Yedam at the same restaurant.

For the finale, Seongmin's solo track – the afrobeat "Signal" – began to play. A fun, loose and carefree performance, with Seongmin delivering every smile and every beat of the choreography (Jongwoo stepping in as his dancer at points), even when he could have coasted on the goodwill of an already exhausted show. He wasn't going to phone it in. Despite the killer set-list, it did feel like a missed opportunity not to have a dedicated section showcasing each member's solo work – "PASSOUT," "someone else" and "Keyring," from Jongwoo, TAG and Yedam respectively, would have been natural additions that kept everything in harmony whilst elevating the show further.

That said, TAG revealed the group are working on a new album and, with time still on the clock, gave the London audience an exclusive listen to an upcoming track. It carries distinct UK garage influences, with the chorus built around the line "baby, what's your name" – another sharp addition to the dance corner of their discography that ONE PACT continues to own. Another lyric offered a fitting send-off: "You're the fantasy / Wanna give you the best of me." That ONE PACT did.
