i-dle Is Here: (G)I-DLE Rebrands, Reclaims Their Legacy, and Usher in a New Chapter

After weeks of subtle clues and a soft digital reset, (G)I-DLE have officially shed the “G.” Reintroducing themselves as i-dle, the five-member powerhouse is not just changing their name – they’re flipping the script on what it means to grow, evolve, and own your narrative in K-pop.

Today marks the first release under their new identity: We are i-dle, a retrospective mini-album that doesn’t look back with nostalgia but forward with clarity. Featuring re-recorded versions of nine of their biggest title tracks – from the breakout hit “LATATA” to the genre-warping “NXDE” – the project gives longtime fans a fresh lens while serving as a sleek primer for new listeners. Each track is reimagined with the current five-member lineup (MIYEON, MINNIE, SOYEON, YUQI, SHUHUA), offering tighter vocal textures and a sharpened sense of unity.

But this is more than a repackage. The accompanying cinematic trailer – centred on a revamped “LATATA” – signals something bigger: a full-scale reintroduction of i-dle as artists no longer boxed in by debut-era expectations. Their upcoming eighth mini-album, set to drop on May 19, promises to deepen that transition. Teaser images hint at a bolder sonic direction, but for now, the group is keeping official tracklist and title details under wraps.

To mark the rebrand and their 7th anniversary, i-dle also launched the (G) EXHIBITION in Seoul – a curated walkthrough of their journey so far, capped with a symbolic “casket installation” retiring the “G.” Visually provocative and self-aware, it’s a statement only i-dle could pull off: aesthetic, meaningful, a little cheeky.

Even their new logo tells a story. Built from the lowercase letters i, d, l, e and dotted symbols, the design forms a constellation-like structure – a visual nod to interconnectedness, individual strength, and limitless potential. At its heart is a five-pointed star made of “i”s, a subtle yet powerful reference to how each member shines on her own while forming something greater together.

Originally, the “(G)” stood for “girl”, but as i-dle, the group steps into a more expansive identity. Not just girl group, not just idols – artists on their own terms.

Since debuting under CUBE Entertainment in 2018, i-dle have carved out a distinctive space in K-pop with their genre-fluid sound, maximalist visuals, and fiercely self-directed creative process – led by SOYEON’s commanding role in production and songwriting. Their discography includes hits like “Oh my god,” “TOMBOY,” “Nxde,” and “Queencard,” while recent projects such as [2] and [I SWAY] have further cemented their global status.

Fresh off their third world tour and armed with a fresh identity, i-dle aren’t starting over – they’re leveling up. Expect more in the coming weeks as they continue to rewrite what it means to grow up and glow up in the spotlight.
