Ahn Chil Hyun, popularly known as Kangta, is one of K-pop’s earliest superstars. He was a part of the K-pop group H.O.T, acronym for Highfive of Teenagers, under SM Entertainment. H.O.T was active from 1996 to 2001. Kangta received an offer from SM to continue his solo career and he accepted. Since then, he has been working as a multi-faceted artist who can sing, dance, write and compose tracks with ease.

Kangta made his solo debut in 2001 with the studio album “Polaris.” In 2006, he collaborated with Taiwanese singer Vanness Wu of F4 fame. Their duo was called Kangta & Vanness. They debuted with the studio album Scandal, though the duo disbanded after being active for about a year. In 2008, Kangta took a pause from his professional life to complete his mandatory military enlistment.

He has written songs for the next generation singers like NCT’s Doyoung, Taeyeon, Baekhyun, Ben, Yesung, and BoA, to name a few. In addition to being a musician, Kangta is also a talented actor. He is noted for his roles in movies and dramas alike. He also did a short stint at hosting a radio show. He is currently an executive of SM Entertainment and since 2023, he has been active as producer at Kreation Music Rights's label Smashhit.

He made a solo comeback in 2022 with “Eyes on You”, but since then he has not been seen on the small or big screen. Perhaps, he has quietly stayed behind the curtain to focus on his managerial duties. He has been involved in several dating rumors with on again off again relationships. He has been one of the most popular idols of his time and he continues to be a favorite of his fans.
