Daily Non-Kpop Spotlight: “& New” by Eyedi
Por Eyedi

Today’s pick hits a bit closer to K-pop than many of our choices here, but we figured we’d throw you a crowd pleaser after a few weeks of avant garde picks. Eyedi (who recently announced would no longer be releasing music under that name, instead choosing to go by her birth name Nam Yu-jin) is a pop artist who leans more into the synthpop side of Korean music than your standard K-pop. Her music almost scratches the same itch as citypop, and if you’ve never listened to her music, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
“& New” is a wonderful, synthy bop that feels all at once hopelessly romantic and wistfully nostalgic. Like all good synthpop songs, the track is built on top of these massive synth drums, and the layers upon layers of synths give the track a beautifully dark feel. It sounds like nighttime, which is only boosted by the lyrics “Living in the sunlight, loving in the moonlight.” It’s a warm summer's night full of naivety and uncertainties about the future, but not for a moment wanting things to change.
