Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Snow” by SURL

Today’s Non-K-pop Spotlight is another great track from the 4-piece Korean indie band SURL. We can’t sing enough praise for the effortless tenor/falsetto vocals – a staple approach for SURL. This song opens with an isolated vocal over a picked electric guitar with delicious high-frequency shimmer. Tension mounts until things finally kick off into a chill, pop/rock anthem.

The song will please fans of Western bands like Snow Patrol or Temper Trap. It also makes subtle use of chromaticism in the chord changes that would please fans of The Killers. At once relaxing and stadium-level huge, “Snow” is a real treat for the ears.
