Daily Non-K-Pop Spotlight: “I don’t give a” by MEMI

Sometimes it’s good to be angry. It’s fun to not care what anyone else has to think. It’s cool to lean into being an edgy punk who tells everyone else off. And Korean rocker MEMI knows that better than most.
Her track “I don’t give a” channels that kind of cheeky rebelliousness of someone being a pill just for the fun of it, and makes it clear she’s doing what she wants, no matter what. The song is a guitar-driven bop that carries equal parts groovy swagger and punk uncaring. The chorus is just the same five words repeated over and over again, which hopefully drives her point home to those thinking she might actually care somewhat. Her voice is fuzzed out, but occasionally breaks into sections with clean, fully-panned spoken additions.
As MEMI is a guitarist, the guitar parts are certainly the focal point here. The track is riffy and aggressive, and although this isn’t the most impressive track technically, it hits just the right spot for dirty, uncaring rock music.
