Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “As I Am” by Haze Moon
Por Anwaya Mane

Most of our K-Indie picks lately have been heavy on the funk, soul, and hip-hop side of pop. But every now and then you need to slow down and chill, you know? That’s why today we’re sharing “As I Am” by Haze Moon.
This is a plodding, thoughtful, emotional ballad that will appeal to American fans of Josh Groban. It opens with subtle, sustained, piano chords that leave plenty of space in the mix for Haze Moon’s vocals to shine. Things build steadily as synths begin to swirl around the piano, and just when you think the song is about to drop and the drums are going to enter: nothing happens.
Everything pulls back to just vocals and the piano. This ebb and flow occurs several times throughout the song until at last the song builds to the climax that a lesser song would’ve given away in its first chorus. Process and duration is key on this song, and Haze Moon revels in it.
