Comeback Corner: NEXZ smoulder, KWON EUN BI dazzles, and 82MAJOR aim for takeover.

by Hasan Beyaz

Welcome to Comeback Corner, your sharpest edit of what’s new and necessary across the scene. Each week, Comeback Corner rounds up the K-pop releases that truly delivered.

This week’s picks thrive on duality: soft vs strong, sweet vs sharp, playful vs poised. Whether it’s the smouldering restraint of NEXZ, the flirtatious edge of from20, or YUQI’s luxe confidence, each track reveals power in a different form; even the lightest moments come with intent. Whether through rollercoaster genre blends or conceptual confidence, every track here has something to say, and knows exactly how it wants to say it.

NEXZ - “Simmer”

The slow burn continues for NEXZ, JYP’s cross-border rookie group that’s quickly proving it has more than just potential. Metallic in tone and magnetic in attitude, “Simmer” hits hard without overplaying its hand, taking shape as an intriguing hip-hop cut that leans into the power of holding back. Daring you to underestimate them, there’s a confidence here that doesn’t need to shout, just smoulder. It’s a warning shot in the form of restraint: the real impact is still coming. With a second mini-album O-RLY? on the horizon, NEXZ are clearly playing the long game, and playing it well.

YUQI of (G)I-DLE - “FENDI"

YUQI turns fashion into a feeling on “FENDI,” a track that wears its luxe aesthetic on its sleeve without losing depth. As much a fashion statement as it is a musical flex, “FENDI” sees YUQI fusing understated Chinese instrumentation with slick R&B production. A love letter to her role as a Fendi ambassador, it’s poised, personal, and packed with luxury-coded confidence, embodying elegance with edge in a sonic runway moment tailored to Yuqi’s unique silhouette.

from20 - “Eye Candy”

“Eye Candy” is K-pop at its most unapologetically seductive – playful, provocative, and dangerously sweet. Built on a Y2K hip-hop foundation and layered with glossy pop charm, from20 crafts an irresistible anthem about allure and perception. It’s a metaphor-heavy flex track about being seen, desired, and maybe even underestimated. But beneath the sugar is bite – and from20 makes it clear: the sugar high is real.

KWON EUN BI - “Hello Stranger”

Has KWON EUN BI ever let us down? She keeps her winning streak alive with “Hello Stranger,” a sultry Latin-tinged track that simmers with nocturnal intrigue. Built on snapping rhythms and punchy snares, she narrates a fleeting romance with cinematic flair. Few idols straddle elegance and fire like KWON EUN BI, and “Hello Stranger” might be her most vivid showcase yet. Her vocals dance between softness and power as she spins a tale of fleeting connection – the kind that’s too intense to last. It’s cinematic, seductive, and full of tension; the kind of song you listen to at midnight, windows down, chasing something you know won’t last but need anyway.

NCT WISH - “poppop”

“poppop” is pure euphoria – a fizzy, bounce-heavy love song that doesn’t try to be anything other than joyful. With BoA overseeing production and Kenzie handling lyrics, NCT WISH are surrounded by SM royalty, and it shows in the track’s clean execution. There’s something refreshingly simple about its story of young love and honest confession; light, bright, and bouncing with jersey club flavour, it’s a lovestruck sugar rush full of innocence and heart. No frills, no irony – just earnest pop euphoria done right.

82MAJOR - “TAKEOVER”

“TAKEOVER” is a mission statement. Trap-heavy and confrontational, 82MAJOR comes in swinging with bars about vision, dominance, and leveling up. Anchored by aggressive trap beats and high-stakes bravado, the lyrics are littered with power plays and spiritual metaphors – “open up the third eye” – hinting at a grander vision beyond dominance for dominance’s sake. It’s raw, bold, and not particularly interested in subtlety, positioning the group as future-forward disruptors.

UNIS - “SWICY”

UNIS bring the flavour – literally – on “SWICY,” a dopamine-hit of a track that’s half bubblegum, half spice. Packed with food metaphors and unpredictable twists, it’s a celebration of contrast: soft but sharp, sweet but explosive. Much like K-pop itself, it walks the tightrope between playful and powerful with finesse; a hyper-flavoured, genre-bending track that plays on quirky versatility and aims to be addictive – mission accomplished.

ODD YOUTH - “I LIKE YOU”

ODD YOUTH lean into their name on “I LIKE YOU,” a charming, offbeat ode to friendship and electric connection. Riding that K-pop lineage of quirky sincerity without falling into cliché, “I LIKE YOU” is an offbeat serotonin boost and weird in all the right ways. With bright production and singalong-style vocals, the song radiates best-friend energy and playful affection. K-pop has always thrived in the space between sincerity and strangeness, and ODD YOUTH hit that sweet spot with charm to spare.

Come back next week for the latest standout choices.
