On July 30, ADOR announced that NewJeans’ “How Sweet” has reached 300 million streams on Spotify as of last Saturday.
“How Sweet” is the eponymous title track of the group’s second single album, which was released in May 2024 as one of their final projects prior to legal disputes. The Miami bass-inspired hip-hop track spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Global 200 chart, and by the end of the year was ranked on editorial Best K-pop Songs lists from Billboard, Rolling Stone and NME. Now, it marks the ninth NewJeans song to breach the 300 million streams mark.
The achievement is especially significant at this time due to ADOR’s announcement of the “2026 Summer of NewJeans.” The agency released a YouTube video with the title in celebration of the group’s fourth anniversary, alongside clips and photos. All feature four members of the original five-member line-up – Minji, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein – reuniting with each other.
“2026 Summer of NewJeans” is the group’s first series of official content in a year and a half, leading many to assume that this is the first hint at a comeback with this new four-member line-up. Though nothing has yet been confirmed, both excitement from fans over the anniversary content and the streaming achievement of “How Sweet” signals that new music is likely to be well-received.
NewJeans has had strong sales and streaming figures since their debut in 2022 with NewJeans, which sold over 250,000 copies within its first day according to Hanteo. OMG saw that number jump to 500,000, and Get Up doubled their previous first day sales again to over a million. “How Sweet” now ranks amongst the successes of songs from these albums, reinforcing the group’s consistent popularity.
There may still be lingering doubt, as it is unclear at present if NewJeans will alter their popular Y2K sound following the re-adjustment of their line-up and the establishment of a new era. This question will be answered soon, if suspicions over a potential comeback are proven correct.
