LUNEDI

Same Day, Different Circle

WORDS BY HASAN BEYAZ

LUNEDI released "CIRCLE" on 16 July 2026, her second single since stepping out from Weeekly under a new name that translates, fittingly, to the day she used to go by.

Where "Face Myself" – her debut – carried the weight of introduction, "CIRCLE" doesn't have to explain her. It just has to sit inside a feeling most people already recognise: the pull back toward something you thought you'd already left.

That's the song's whole premise. Not a breakup, not a reunion, but the loop in between – a relationship, a friendship, a version of feeling that keeps resurfacing no matter how many times you think you've closed it. LUNEDI built "CIRCLE" around that repetition on purpose, and the production follows the same logic. Vintage alternative rock, synths and strings stacked underneath, a rhythm that keeps circling instead of resolving – until the band sound breaks open toward the end.

She started writing in March, and the vocal takes stretched from March into early July – a near-daily process of re-recording, chasing a tone she describes as detached and vintage, a register that ran against her usual instinct for precision and detail. Somewhere in the process it became clear "CIRCLE" belonged to summer instead, and her debut album – now slated for September – got a pre-release in its place.

There's a small, almost self-defeating detail behind the single's cover: LUNEDI tried to draw the circle on the jacket photo by hand, repeatedly, and couldn't land it. Editing finished what her hand couldn't.

It's a minor story, but it tracks with the song's own idea – some things resist being closed cleanly, no matter how many times you go back over them.
Any behind the scenes stories from the jacket photoshoot?

LUNEDI I actually tried to draw the circle on the jacket photo myself, but no matter how many times I went over it, I couldn't get a perfectly round circle. In the end I had to rely on editing to make it work.

What was it like filming the special visualizer?

For the special visualizer shoot it was just the director and me, no other staff. Because of that we could really run around freely and capture things in a relaxed, spontaneous mood, which I think is why it turned out even better. Especially the scene where I was running around in the ocean, I was wearing a white dress and had to go into the water, so I felt a lot of eyes on me and was pretty embarrassed.

What is "CIRCLE" about?

"CIRCLE" is a song about a relationship you thought was over, but that keeps coming back. Whether it's love, friendship, or lingering feelings, it captures those moments of circling back to the same place. It's about that cycle of repetition everyone has experienced at least once.

Can you tell us more about the genre and sound?

"CIRCLE" is built on a vintage alternative rock sound, layered with synths and strings to create a dreamy yet intense emotional atmosphere. The repeating rhythm and gradually building instrumentation express the confusion and tension of feeling stuck in the same day over and over, while the band sound explodes toward the end and amplifies the protagonist's emotions.

When was "CIRCLE" made, and why release it as a pre-release single?

I started working on "CIRCLE" in March and finished it around May. It was originally meant to go on the album, but it felt like such a perfect fit for summer that we decided to release it as a pre-release single instead. The full album is planned for September so I hope you'll look forward to that too.

What went into the vocal performance?

I put a lot of effort into capturing that vintage vocal tone for "CIRCLE." I'm usually someone who sings with a lot of detail and precision, so a more vintage, detached vocal style was actually really challenging for me. From March until early July I re-recorded almost every single day. "CIRCLE" is really the result of my voice built up layer by layer over an entire spring. I hope it brings a refreshing, feel good energy to everyone who listens.
