BELIFT LAB’s rookie girl group ILLIT is set to release their fifth mini album, ‘BREAK EVEN,’ on October 26, 2026.

A scheduler, tracklist and trailer have been shared on the BELIFT LAB’s official social media channels, beginning promotions. The scheduler lists three concepts – ‘GLLIT,’ ‘QUIET,’ and ‘MAD’ – on a receipt design, as well as dates for a special performance and the release of music video teasers. It also features several narratorial hints; text includes “My plans are a mess, all thanks to you,” “I’m thinking about what I got out of it,” and “I wanna put myself first from now on.” Each lean into an anti-romantic storyline and a frustrated perspective.

Individual tracklist posters take on the appearance of police files, with each song name stamped in red by the ‘Dept. of Daily Irritation’ and images of the four currently active members wearing irritated expressions. BREAK EVEN will consist of the four songs “Super in Love,” “More,” “You’re Under Arrest,” and “Pop,” with “You’re Under Arrest” taking the lead as the title track.

Finally, the trailer pictures ILLIT as they reject sadness and turn to anger and destruction; members wipe away tears, tear apart a teddy bear, and smash objects with mallets and baseball bats. Framing and styling takes on an artistic, almost retro feel, with a cold colouring and plaid patterns. Throughout, added text refers to “Four Stories” with the taglines “Not Worth It” and “I’ll Lose All My Patience.”

In light of this video, BELIFT LAB has detailed the intended narrative of BREAK EVEN. “Based on the idea of a “break-even point,” a state in which there is neither profit nor loss,” the official Weverse announcement states, “BREAK EVEN embodies a resolution to no longer remain in a relationship that leaves one at a loss simply because one feels that the time and emotions already invested would be too precious to let go.”

With a viral debut, ILLIT garnered attention from the beginning. Their fourth mini album, MAMIHLAPINATAPAI, has sold over 580,000 copies according to Circle, in part due to the virality of “It’s Me” and its haunting dance. Only six months later, the group are coming back in the hopes of another hit.

However, for ILLIT, BREAK EVEN marks a new approach. The rookies first debuted in 2024 with the mini album SUPER REAL ME and its viral lead single “Magnetic,” which held a playful, youthful “kitsch teen” aesthetic. Subsequent releases have moved away from that solely casual, bedroom-pop style, with “NOT CUTE ANYMORE” and “It’s Me” establishing a creepy-cute image. ILLIT’s imagery has shifted to something more complex, in line with the intention to showcase a wider variety of authentic feelings. Now, with BREAK EVEN, they turn to destruction and refusal in full force. It will be interesting to see whether this shift affects their signature bright, dream-like sound.

ILLIT are set to hold the ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥︎’ ENCORE in KOREA on October 17 and 18 at the Inspire Arena in Incheon. Such a large-scale performance, held prior to the release of BREAK EVEN, will aid the comeback’s success – as will the suggestion of a special stage that may refer to the new title track “You’re Under Arrest.”
