Claims Title of Highest-Selling Debut Album in K-pop

By Chyenne Tatum

CORTIS have set a new benchmark in K-pop history. As of April 9, their debut EP, Color Outside the Lines, has surpassed two million cumulative sales in South Korea – making it the best-selling debut album by a K-pop group in the country's history and only the second K-pop debut to reach that figure, surpassing ZEROBASEONE's 2023 record with Youth In the Shade.

The milestone arrives less than a year after the five-member HYBE group first made their mark with viral pre-release single "Go!" – a track that spread across TikTok and Instagram Reels before the EP had even dropped, giving CORTIS a locked-in audience from day one. Previous records include first-day sales of 250,000 copies and becoming the fastest rookie group to surpass 200 million Spotify streams in November 2025.

Since then, CORTIS have been at the centre of K-pop discussions about self-expression and creative freedom, with the group heavily involved in the making of their music from writing to production. That profile has opened doors well beyond music – the group were named Friends of the NBA to help promote the league in Asia, became the first K-pop group to perform at the NBA All-Star Game in early 2026, and followed that with a halftime show appearance at the 2026 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

In under a year, CORTIS have broken sales records, crossed into the NBA, and built a fanbase that shows no signs of slowing down. The group's second EP, GreenGreen, is due May 4 – and the early indicators are significant: 565,000 pre-saves on Spotify as of March 30, and over 1.22 million preorders as of April 2. For a group still in its first year, those numbers speak for themselves.
