BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ Dropping ‘new trick’ in Collaboration With Apple

By Isabel Miller

THEBLACKLABEL has announced that ROSÉ of BLACKPINK has partnered with Apple to release a new single, titled “new trick,” on September 18.

A teaser video was uploaded on ROSÉ’s social media accounts picturing the artist in a preppy outfit holding a lollipop, which reveals both the song name and its link to Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro. The teaser’s audio also offers fans a snippet of the song.

The music video was filmed entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro, releasing on the same day as Apple's latest product – an alignment that positions "new trick" as the centrepiece of Apple's Shot on iPhone campaign rollout. Previous contributors to the campaign include The Weeknd, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lady Gaga. ROSÉ is the first K-pop artist to join that list, heavily signalling the cultural capital K-pop stars continue to command.

The music video was directed by Dave Meyers – an award-winning director whose recent credits include RAYE, Fontaines D.C., Sabrina Carpenter – who also helmed BLACKPINK's "JUMP." His involvement says something about where ROSÉ sits in the wider industry: she is consistently being positioned alongside globally recognised pop artists, working with the same creative talent, and selected by a global brand on those terms.

The partnership is the latest marker of how far K-pop's commercial reach has extended. South Korean artists are now being sought out for major technology campaigns alongside fashion – Samsung has run similar collaborations, and LG Electronics recently created a K-pop girl group solely for a product launch. It is no longer just individual idols being borrowed for their fanbases; the aesthetic and cultural language of K-pop itself has become a marketing asset.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, ROSÉ gave several hints at what to expect from the tone and narrative of “new trick,” comparing it to pop-rock songs in the early 2000s. Where rosie leaned into vulnerability and melancholy, "new trick" signals a tonal shift towards lighter, more playful pop, rooted in the pop-rock energy of the early 2000s.

The song will be her first solo release in over a year, and has been much anticipated in recent weeks. ROSÉ is the final BLACKPINK member to announce new solo music following group activities throughout the first half of 2026. JENNIE released Fallen Angel in late August, JISOO released “CLICK” on September 4, and LISA is set to release an EP in October following the September single “SaWaDiKa.”

“new trick” by ROSÉ will be available as a digital single on September 18, 2026.
