BIGBANG Appointed as First Honorary Ambassadors for Korea’s Space Agency

by Isabel Miller

According to YG Entertainment, BIGBANG have been appointed as the first honorary ambassadors of Korea's national space agency as of August 14.

The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) was established in 2024 as South Korea's dedicated space agency, leading the country's aerospace research and exploration.

KASA states that the appointment intends to "expand the public's interest and participation in aerospace" and "create new challenges for Korea's aerospace together with the public." BIGBANG will serve as recognisable public figures to boost the visibility of the agency's campaigns as it continues to grow.

As the agency's first-ever ambassadors, BIGBANG are being placed at the forefront of that expansion. The group has remained a fixture of the Korean entertainment industry for twenty years and played a significant role in its initial international reach – to appoint them now is to acknowledge that influence, and the timing is deliberate: the group are marking their 20th anniversary with a full reunion, returning to the forefront of the industry at the same moment KASA is establishing its public identity.

The appointment also aligns with the group's signature concept. BIGBANG takes its name from the Big Bang theory, and their recently unveiled reunion world tour 'BIGBANG 2026-2027 WORLD TOUR <XX : COSMOS>' returns explicitly to that space theme. The pre-established link gives the partnership an organic foundation that most ambassador appointments lack.

As part of the ambassadorship launch, BIGBANG have opened a microsite to collect messages from fans, which will be converted into code images and loaded onto the Nuri No. 5 Earth-observation rocket scheduled to launch this October. The initiative, part of KASA's 'Dream Capsule' programme, aims to encourage public participation in space exploration while giving fans a direct stake in the group's comeback moment.

The KASA appointment, a new digital single "BiiiG" dropping August 19, and the <XX : COSMOS> World Tour kicking off August 21 in Goyang are all moving together – a coordinated relaunch for one of K-pop's most enduring acts.
