Triple H: A group that could have been worthwhile

Cube Entertainment has given us notable K-pop acts like Rain or Beast in the past and Pentagon or Lightsum in the current times. Taking talents from its talent pool, Cube Entertainment introduced a new unit consisting of members Hyuna, and Pentagon’s Hui and E’Dawn (whose original name is Hyo Jong, but now goes by just Dawn) titled Triple H.

Triple H was one of the most intriguing pairings of their time. The group debuted in May 2017 with the EP 199X. This EP came with the title track “365 Fresh.” Just a year later, the trio made a comeback with another EP title Retro Futurism with the title track “Retro Future.” Both these EPs hold a fun and pop vibe. The trio experimented with ideas that we have seen before they reinvented the ideas in such a way that left the listeners in awe each time. Their voices compliment each other perfectly. Hyuna’s nasally singing paired with Hui and Dawn’s sharp notes creates an entertaining melody line that pairs with the group’s experimental nature.

Hyuna, Dawn and Hui have their own distinctive style when it comes to singing and performing. All three of them are equally bold and stunning in their presentation. Their synergies in this trio were worthy of applause. In a time when co-ed groups were few and far between, Triple H was off to a promising start. It is somewhat of an unsaid rule for artists to not fraternize within the industry, but constant proximity can lead to certain encounters. And soon, the news came in.

Hyuna and Dawn revealed that they were dating for quite some time, and fans poured out their love and support for the couple. However, Cube had other plans. Cube was not supportive of the couple and eventually, the contracts between the label and the artists were terminated. After Hyuna and Dawn departed from Cube Entertainment, the group’s future remained unclear. It seems safe to assume though that Triple H has disbanded. Hyuna and Dawn continued their journey with PSY’s P Nation, and became one of K-pop’s most loved couples. They got engaged in February 2022 but called it off in November in the same year. Hui, who is a part of Pentagon, continues his activities as a Pentagon member and a soloist under Cube Entertainment. Hyuna and Dawn signed with At Area in 2023, after departing from P Nation.
