DAYOUNG walks us through her solo debut, gonna love me, right? – a project that moves between instinct, ambition and playfulness. “body” rides on rhythm and groove, “number one rockstar” throws out her boldest statement, and “marry me” brings in her cheeky side. Together, they shape gonna love me, right? as a first chapter that feels direct, personal and unapologetically hers.
1. "body"
DAYOUNG: “body” is a pop-dance track that instantly drew me in with its rhythm and groove. Before I even focused on the lyrics, the beat made me imagine myself moving on stage, and that’s when I knew this song was mine. The lyrics later revealed the rush of a new love—the pull, the thrill, almost like a scene from a movie. To me, it’s about how emotions can be expressed without words, when even a single look or gesture can say everything.
2. "number one rockstar"
DAYOUNG: “number one rockstar” feels like my boldest statement. It’s playful but also a declaration of the ambition I carry with me. The rock-inspired sound and straightforward lyrics capture the energy of saying, “I know it. I’m going to be a rockstar.” I felt this most strongly when I decided to create the album in LA. It was a little scary, but taking control, building the team, and shaping the music under my own name gave me a new confidence. That fearless spirit is exactly what I wanted to capture in this song.
3. "marry me"
DAYOUNG: “marry me” shows a cheekier, more playful side of me. I actually came up with the idea myself and worked on the lyrics, so it’s a track I feel very connected to. On the outside, it sounds lighthearted with lines like “Even I’d marry me,” but there’s also an honest side to it that reflects who I am. I like that it leaves space for listeners to imagine their own stories behind the song. If it makes people smile and feel that little boost of confidence, then I think it’s done its job.
