Woohyun: INFINITE Potential


Nam Woo-hyun, known as Woohyun, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actor best recognized as a main vocalist of the boy group INFINITE. He began his solo career in 2016 with the release of his EP Write.., which achieved significant success, charting at number two on the Gaon Album Chart and number nine on the Billboard World Albums chart. Over the years, Woohyun has solidified his solo career with subsequent releases, including Second Write.. (2018), A New Journey (2019), and With (2021), demonstrating his versatility as an artist.

Woohyun's early life in Seoul saw him initially aspire to be a soccer player before pivoting to music during high school. He joined Woollim Entertainment after impressing with a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Lately" and debuted with INFINITE in 2010. His career has been marked by diverse endeavors, including acting in dramas like The Thousandth Man and starring in musicals such as Gwanghwamun Sonata and The Days. Additionally, he formed the duo Toheart with Shinee's Key in 2014, showcasing his collaborative spirit in the industry.

Woohyun's solo journey took off in 2016 with the release of his debut EP Write.., and he soon became known for his powerful performances on shows like Immortal Songs 2. His first solo concert, Arbor Day, in 2018 sold out in just two minutes, a testament to his strong fanbase. Despite these successes, Woohyun faced a significant challenge in early 2023 when he was diagnosed with a rare gastrointestinal stromal tumor. This life-threatening diagnosis led to a 10-hour surgery, during which his future as a performer was uncertain.

Defying his doctor's advice to rest, Woohyun courageously participated in INFINITE's comeback in July 2023, joining the group for concerts and the release of their mini album 13egin. He also pushed ahead with the release of his first solo studio album, Whitree, in November 2023. This album, which features the city pop track "Baby Baby" in both Korean and English, was crafted to inspire and give hope to those facing similar struggles. Woohyun’s resilience and dedication to his craft have made him a beacon of strength, as he continues to perform and create despite the odds.
