This Week in K-pop Stages: P1Harmony, tripleS, MEOVV & BOYNEXTDOOR Shine

This Week in Music Show Stages: P1Harmony, tripleS, MEOVV & BOYNEXTDOOR Shine

It was a week where the new school ran the show — 4th and 5th-gen idols dominated Korea’s music programs with sharp comebacks, renewed stage confidence, and a hunger to be seen. Whether it was polished rookies finding their stride or veteran groups pushing genre boundaries, one thing was clear: K-pop’s next chapter is already here, and it’s uncompromisingly bold.

Stage of the Week: P1Harmony – “Duh!” (The Show, May 14)

Few acts embody growth quite like P1Harmony. Now eight EPs deep, the six-member group continues to reinvent their identity without losing their roots — and their latest performance of “Duh!” on The Show proves just how far they’ve come. Amid sleek styling and refined choreography, what truly stood out wasn’t just the polish — it was the bite.

From the moment THEO and SOUL opened the track with the barbed line “You never paid attention to our stage. Bet you’re shocked now, huh?” the message was clear: this isn’t just another comeback. “Duh!” is a declaration — confrontational, genre-hopping, and unapologetically self-assured. The performance leaned into that ethos, blending old-school hip-hop bravado with the gloss and structure of modern K-pop. And it worked — flawlessly.

Outfitted in black suits with glossy makeup and street-styled bandanas, the group exuded a balance of elegance and edge. But the aesthetic never overpowered the performance. Instead, it amplified the track’s layered production, which fuses Afrobeat rhythms with 90s R&B, hyperpop glitches, and a vibrant house undercurrent — a sonic patchwork that P1Harmony owns rather than borrows from.

The standout moment? Not one — but six. Each member held their own, from THEO’s high ponytail and piercing gaze to SOUL’s lip ring defiance. Jiung and Intak nailed their ending fairy shots with lethal calm, while Keeho’s vocals and Jongseob’s flow kept the momentum grounded. Throughout, their synergy felt instinctive, not rehearsed — a sign of a group that’s not just performing but living their music.

“Duh!” is more than a title track. It’s a thesis statement for this era of P1Harmony — genre-fluid, confident, and hungry to rewrite the rules on their own terms.

Honourable Mentions

MEOVV – “HANDS UP” (M Countdown): With a stronger footing than their debut, MEOVV hit back with intention. Their performance was commanding, winning them a second trophy and a clear foothold in the rookie race.

BOYNEXTDOOR – “I Feel Good” (Music Bank): Pure serotonin. Their youthful exuberance and tight execution made this stage a standout — high-energy, high-impact, and impossible not to smile through.

tripleS – “Are You Alive” (Music Bank): Dressed in crystalline whites, the members offered a cute but confident showing. The track may not break new ground, but its airy chorus and breezy delivery had an addictive charm that stuck.
