QWER solidify their status with the eclectic "My name is Malgeum" music video

One of my favorite aspects of my job is discovering new and intriguing talent, and while I feel a bit embarrassed to admit I wasn’t aware of QWER before, I’m thrilled to have found this talented girl-rock band through their second album, Algorithm's Blossom, with "My Name Is Malguem" serving as the title track.

 

QWER consists of four members: Chodan, Magenta, Hina, and Siyeon. Their new title track "My Name Is Malguem" is an eclectic and electrifying power pop-rock anthem that tells the story of a girl named Malgeum, which means "sunny" in Korean. Although her name suggests brightness, we first meet her soaked in rain, drawing in the listeners’ curiosity. The song evokes strong "Dear Diary come to life on screen" vibes, allowing for open interpretation, which is one of its greatest qualities.

The track features powerful instrumentation, composed and written by (G)I-dle's Soyeon. The members harmonize beautifully, showcasing their vocals while providing a cohesive narrative in the music video. The visuals are lively and vibrant, contrasting effectively with the melancholic and evocative lyrics.
