OnlyOneOf: Totally Unique

OnlyOneOf, a South Korean boy band that debuted in 2019 under 8D Entertainment, is known for pushing boundaries in K-pop through their bold and sensual concepts. The group, composed of KB, Rie, Yoojung, Junji, Mill, and Nine, began their career with Dot Point Jump and quickly gained attention with their viral hit “Savanna.” Their unique concept, described as "ubersexual," blends masculine sexiness with softness, a style curated by creative director Jaden Jeong.

From the start, OnlyOneOf has challenged conventions, weaving provocative themes into their work, often inspired by mythology and religious imagery, as seen in their second EP, Line Sun Goodness. This deep visual storytelling approach sets them apart in a saturated industry.

In 2020, the group garnered attention with the release of Unknown Art Pop 2.1, a single album that explored art through the lens of Pablo Picasso's relationship with Dora Maar. Their avant-garde approach earned them recognition from Billboard as a group to watch. That same year, OnlyOneOf launched their Produced by [ ] series, collaborating with high-profile producers like Gray and GroovyRoom, expanding their sonic palette with songs like “Angel” and “a sOng Of ice & fire.” The series allowed them to experiment with genres, shifting from hip-hop to more melodic tracks, cementing their reputation as innovators unafraid to explore different musical landscapes.

The group's third EP, Instinct Part. 1, was another groundbreaking moment. The title track, "libidO," delved into themes of sexual desire and was accompanied by suggestive choreography that sparked controversy. Despite this, the group stood firm in their artistic expression, with the music video for “libidO” being recognized by Rolling Stone India as the best Korean music video of 2021 for its bold representation of LGBTQ+ themes. OnlyOneOf’s willingness to explore such topics made them pioneers in K-pop’s often conservative landscape, and they continued this momentum with their Underground Idol project in 2022, where each member released solo tracks that further examined various forms of love and identity.

The year 2023 marked new milestones for the group. They embarked on their first world tour, the OnlyOneOf Grand America Tour, captivating audiences across 16 U.S. cities. Fans, affectionately called lyOns, connected deeply with the group’s music and message of inclusivity, most notably when the group assisted a fan in proposing to their partner during a concert in Minneapolis. Their commitment to LGBTQ+ representation continued with their roles in the web series Bump Up Business, a gay drama that furthered their mission of advocating for visibility and acceptance.

As they move forward, OnlyOneOf shows no signs of slowing down. Their latest release, Seoul Collection, tells stories of young people navigating the challenges of urban life, with members KB and Nine heavily involved in its production. The group's future goals are ambitious, aiming for global stardom and potential collaborations with international artists like The Weeknd and Billie Eilish. Their artistic vision, boundary-pushing themes, and growing global fanbase make OnlyOneOf one of the most exciting and unique groups in K-pop today.
