Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Your word” by Shin In Ryu
作者: Shin In Ryu

Every now and then you encounter a song where you know – you just KNOW – the bassist doesn’t get enough recognition. Well, here we are to compliment the bassist for Shin In Ryu, Moon Jung-hwan. This track is so washy and dreamy; the vocals so pure and relaxing; and the drums so tight, simple, and straightforward that it would be easy for this arrangement to fall flat.

But in steps Moon Jung-hwan with round, rumbling bass with just the right amount of edge to cut through the mix. He holds back when he needs to hold back, locking in simply with the drums. But he always digs in and plays the song like it’s the biggest anthem. And when the chorus drops, his bass line gets intricate as all get out, oscillating from roots to fifths to octaves to runs, playing in the gaps between the drums with ferocity.
This song is beautiful, but Moon Jung-hwan makes it legendary. It’s an indie gem for sure.
