Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Through the Tunnel” by Yangbans
作者: Yangbans

Yangbans can best be described as 80s bedroom pop – if bedroom pop existed in the 80s. The opening to “Through the Tunnel” feels like Toto – or a Hall & Oates song – but then it all drops into something a lot more natural and roomy. The blanket of synth pads gives way to funky interplay between clean guitars and straightforward drums with lead synth lines cascading intermittently in the gaps. It’s smart arranging for sure.
Yangbans has been a musical tour de force for the last two years or so. They’ve seen a surge in popularity, being a notable band for the way they blend disco and soul. It’s well produced, well written, well sung, with plenty of moments to catch your attention and baffle you with the direction they chose to go. We won’t give too much away, but be prepared for the back half of this song.
