Daily Non-K-Pop Spotlight: “Favorite” by SOWALL”

作者: SOWALL

In a sharp contrast to yesterday’s spotlight, “Favorite” is one of the chillest tracks you’ll hear this week. Korean producer SOWALL absolutely nails the atmospheric, swirling, misty soundscape found on this track. The lack of lyrics might be a turn-off for some, but the song is the perfect track to put on and just let the worries of the day melt away.

Now, you might surprised to read me say this is a relaxing track if you catch the first few seconds. Admittedly, “Favorite” does start with a harsh, noisy wall that might persuade some to turn back, but if you can just push through the few seconds of discomfort, you’ll be rewarded with a wonderfully minimal lofi beat, calming chimes, flowing water, and layer upon layer of soothing synth lines. The song is simultaneously incredibly calming and filled with odd glitches and foley that threaten to toss the listener into a much more chaotic space—but they don’t. SOWALL manages to find the sweet spot between lazy and uncomfortable that is satisfaction. Seriously, give her stuff a listen.
