Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Dennis The Menace” by the orchard
作者: the orchard

Wow. The soul is strong with this one.

Opening with intricate high hat rhythms with accent touches that are so subtle you feel them rather than hear them, this vintage soul track from The Orchard will groove your skull right out of your head. The bass line glides and bounces along, peppering the song here and there with riffs so tasty they’d kill in a restaurant. The vocals are smooth, charismatic, and pull the listener’s focus to the center as funky guitar dances around them.

It’s a light and breezy tune, clocking in at just under three minutes, but it accomplishes a lot in its short runtime. One of the funnest contributions to the genre as demonstrated by “Dennis The Menace” is the fact that the orchard replaced the traditional funk horn section with soft synths and mellotron. It’s a really subtle change, but it makes all the difference. It keeps everything fresh and makes this song feel distinct. Give it a spin.
