Complaint Filed Against NewJeans Over Use of iPhones in Tourism Video Sparks Debate

NewJeans recently found themselves at the center of controversy after a viewer filed a complaint over their use of iPhones in a promotional video for Korean tourism. The viewer criticized the group for showcasing foreign products, particularly Apple’s iPhone, instead of Korean brands like Samsung in a video meant to promote Korea.

The complaint, filed with the National Petition Service, expressed concern over the “indirect exposure of a specific mobile phone brand” in a tourism advertisement. The complainant argued that the video should have highlighted Korean products.

In response, the Korea Tourism Organization's ESG Management team clarified that NewJeans serves as ambassadors for both the Korean Tourism Organization and Apple’s iPhone. The group's affiliation with Apple has been prominently featured in their performances and promotional videos, contributing to the choice of the product.

The complaint sparked confusion among Korean netizens, many of whom criticized the petitioner for filing what they considered an unnecessary grievance. They questioned the rationale behind the complaint, noting that it detracted from the overall purpose of promoting Korean tourism.
