Chuu: Rebound of the Century

Kim Ji-woo, known to the world as Chuu, has carved a distinct niche for herself in the K-pop industry since her birth on October 20, 1999, in Cheongju, South Korea. As the eldest of three children, Chuu's musical talents emerged early, impressively auditioning with Beyoncé's "Halo." The origins of her stage name lie in the swift pronunciation of her given name. Chuu's educational journey saw her graduating from Hanlim Multi Art School in 2018, alongside her Loona bandmate Kim Lip.

Chuu's breakthrough came on December 14, 2017, when she was introduced as the tenth member of the girl group Loona. Her pre-debut single album, Chuu, featuring the hit track "Heart Attack," soared to number eight on the Gaon Album Chart. As a member of Loona's sub-unit yyxy, she contributed to the success of their EP, Beauty & the Beat, which climbed to number four on the Gaon Album Chart in May 2018. The full group debut followed in August 2018 with the EP [+ +], peaking at number two on the Gaon Album Chart.

Beyond her musical contributions to Loona, Chuu ventured into acting and television, showcasing her versatility. She debuted as an actress in the web drama Dating Class in 2019 and co-hosted the variety show Insane Quiz Show. Her appearances on King of Mask Singer and the Mnet show Running Girls further solidified her presence in the entertainment industry. In 2021, Chuu launched her own YouTube series, Chuu Can Do It, promoting environmental awareness. She became a familiar face in advertisements for major brands like Pocari Sweat and Samsung Galaxy Store and featured in the reality documentary show Law of the Jungle.
A significant chapter in Chuu's career unfolded in November 2022 when her agency, Blockberry Creative, announced her expulsion from Loona, citing allegations of power abuse. The allegations were met with widespread skepticism from fans and industry insiders, leading to criticism of Blockberry Creative's handling of the situation. Despite these hurdles, Chuu continued her journey, signing with ATRP in April 2023. She made her solo debut with the EP Howl in October 2023 and released several other singles and collaborations, underscoring her resilience and dedication to her craft.
Chuu's impact extends beyond her musical endeavors; she is also committed to philanthropy. In December 2022, she revealed that proceeds from merchandise sold at her Jiwoo store would be donated to the Korea Music Power Plant to support the welfare of musicians. This philanthropic initiative underscores Chuu's dedication to giving back to the community and supporting her peers. Despite facing personal and professional challenges, Chuu remains a beloved figure in the K-pop industry, known for her talent, resilience, and philanthropic spirit.
