BDC: Shoot for the Moon

BDC, short for Boys Da Capo, was a South Korean boy group formed by Brand New Music in 2019. Consisting of members Kim Si-hun, Hong Seong-jun, and Yun Jung-hwan, BDC entered the K-pop scene with a blend of ambition and resilience, especially after none of the members secured a spot in the high-profile project group X1 following their stint on Produce X 101. Despite this, the group forged their own path, debuting with the single album Boys Da Capo on October 29, 2019, and making their mark with the lead single "Remember Me." The group’s name "Da Capo," which means "from the beginning" in Italian, symbolized their intent to start fresh and leave a lasting impression in the industry.
Prior to their official debut, BDC built anticipation by starring in their own reality show, Boys Don't Cry. This series not only introduced fans to the group’s personality but also offered a behind-the-scenes look at their preparations for stardom, including naming the group and performing on the streets of Seoul. The pre-debut exposure helped solidify a small but loyal fanbase, who eagerly awaited their first official release. BDC’s debut track, "Remember Me," showcased their talent for both singing and choreography, with member Kim Si-hun contributing to the dance composition, reflecting the group’s hands-on approach to their artistry.

In 2020, BDC embarked on The Intersection series, which served as a cornerstone for their career. The trilogy of EPs—Belief, Discovery, and Contact—each presented a new chapter in their journey, with songs like "Shoot The Moon," "Moon Rider," and "Moonlight" highlighting their evolving sound and concept. The group gained attention for their intricate choreography and celestial-themed music videos, which often tied into motifs of the moon and exploration. The series was capped off with the special single "Moon Walker," co-written by Kim Si-hun, which symbolically closed this chapter of their career.
BDC continued to experiment and push their limits in 2022, releasing the single album Blue Sky, marking their first comeback after a 10-month hiatus. The track of the same name was a refreshing pop anthem that reminded fans of the trio’s emotional depth and vocal range. Their journey into the competitive world of K-pop took another turn when they joined JTBC’s music reality show Peak Time under the alias Team 18:00. Unfortunately, their time on the show was cut short, as they were eliminated in the first round, but the exposure reaffirmed their determination to leave their mark in the industry.

Sadly, BDC's story came to a close in August 2023 when Brand New Music announced the group’s disbandment after four years together. While their career was relatively brief, BDC demonstrated perseverance and creativity, contributing a series of thoughtful, thematic releases to the K-pop landscape. Their disbandment marked the end of an era for their dedicated fans, but their music and story continue to resonate within the industry.
