Allegations emerge: NCT members accused of illicit activities

Websites like Koreaboo and AllKpop have spread some very serious allegations against NCT’s Haechan and Johnny regarding actions taken in Japan. It should be noted that these allegations are unsubstantiated and are largely hearsay.

For those out of the loop, someone described as “a prominent nightlife promoter” posted online that the two NCT members had engaged with escorts while in Japan for group adult activities. The social media posts were photos with captions describing how excited three women were to spend an intimate night with their favorite celebrities while fans were outside. The photos allegedly show off the women’s hotel room key cards, fans outside, and drugs and alcohol in the hotel room.

One of the 3 women, apparently named Rio, has claimed to have had relations with Mark and Taeil as well. She also claims to have footage that would “end them.” These allegations are very serious. Slander at best, blackmail at worst, and if true one of the dumbest things NCT’s members could do to completely destroy everything they’ve worked for.

Not everyone online is buying it, however. Reddit has been abuzz with sleuths investigating the situation.

“It was started by a Japanese Twitter account that makes up rumors,” says one Redditor. Another commenter noted that reports were conflicting and couldn’t say whether or not the allegations were coming from fans who received preferential, intimate treatment or if they were escorts hired for services.

SM Entertainment has denied the allegations and is pursuing legal action. Their share prices dropped 8% amidst the allegations. Their official statement regarding the scandal is below.

Hello. This is SM Entertainment.

At present, groundless rumors about Johnny and Haechan regarding prostitution, drugs, and other shocking content that is difficult to even say out loud are currently being spread and reproduced indiscriminately online. After checking, these rumors are completely false, and they are criminal acts that severely defame our artists’ character.

Additionally, false, groundless rumors and malicious libel related to these [rumors] continue to be produced about not only NCT but other artists in our agency, including Kim Heechul.

We have already gathered plenty of evidence regarding many posts related to this, and we will not sit back and watch. Regardless of nationality, we plan to make sure that the perpetrators of these acts will be legally punished, with no settlements or leniency.

We hope that you are aware that all acts of posting malicious content, even at this moment, may be grounds for legal punishment.

Thank you.
