A man is in prison for BTS identity fraud

According to the Seoul Central District Court, their Criminal Appeal Division has upheld the prison sentence of a 29-year-old man. This man had been sentenced to a year in prison for impersonating members of BTS over the phone and online – specifically on his personal smartphone. He did this in order to con a music producer into sending him unreleased BTS songs.

From August 2022 to September 2022, the man impersonated SUGA of BTS and gained access to tracks. He took things a step further in November when he approached the same producer to get info about future album releases and their military service. The same man pretended to be V as well – obtaining 10 tracks from a different producer.

This man appealed his case after his original sentence, but the original verdict still stands.
