Interestingly, the US and India share similar tastes, favoring BTS, BLACKPINK, alongside solo artists like Jungkook and IU.
Former CEO and Others Indicted for Alleged K-Pop Chart Manipulation
Eleven individuals, including a former entertainment agency CEO, face charges for allegedly manipulating music charts to boost the rankings of 15 K-pop songs. Led by Chief Prosecutor Jeong Ji Eun, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office announced the indictment of a former entertainment agency CEO (referred to in the report as Mr. Kim) and ten others. The manipulation reportedly involved assigning IP addresses to virtual PCs and streaming songs over 1.72 million times through multiple accounts, evading detection by anti-abuse systems. The case highlights the systematic nature of chart manipulation in the industry, with prosecutors vowing to ensure appropriate sentences for the defendants. Among the affected songs were Young Tak’s “Why Are You Coming Out from There,” NATURE’s “Oopsie (My Bad),” and KCM’s “Between Love and Friendship.”

Court Ruling Favors Min Hee-Jin in Escalating HYBE Dispute
Internal strife continues at HYBE as a management dispute concerning NewJeans has escalated with explosive allegations from producer Min Hee-Jin. In a dramatic two-hour broadcast, Min publicly contested accusations of corporate misconduct leveled against HYBE, claiming plagiarism, unfair compensation practices, and fostering a hostile work environment. These allegations have reverberated throughout the K-pop industry, dealing a significant blow to HYBE's market value and further complicating its relationship with NewJeans. As BTS remains on hiatus due to mandatory military service, the future of both NewJeans and HYBE hangs in the balance amidst the intensifying turmoil. In a recent development, a Seoul court has ruled against HYBE’s attempt to dismiss Min from her role as head of its subsidiary label ADOR, citing insufficient evidence. This legal victory allows Min to retain control over ADOR and NewJeans, while HYBE's leadership faces growing challenges in managing internal conflicts and maintaining employee morale.
