EXO's Chanyeol reflects on life and heartbreak in "Black Out" MV
Автор: Anwaya Mane

Chanyeol debuted as a rapper and singer-songwriter with EXO in 2012, and now, over a decade later, he made his solo debut with his first EP, Black Out, featuring the title track of the same name. As suggested by the title, "Black Out" evokes a somber and melancholic atmosphere, exploring themes of life, heartbreak, loneliness, and emptiness.
The music video begins on an open-air bus filled with passengers enjoying the nightlife, laughing and joking under the glow of neon lights. Amidst the joyful crowd, Chanyeol stands apart, lost in introspection about his desolate life and grappling with a recent heartbreak. The lyrics are profoundly reflective, capturing his tumultuous emotions and racing thoughts: "I'm falling into a deep abyss. Please hold me just one more time; I'm falling apart."

While the lyrics clearly address the pain of a romantic breakup, they can also be interpreted as a commentary on urban loneliness—the feeling of isolation one experiences in a bustling city, far from home, family, pets, and friends. Lines like "the world left alone is turning into black out" highlight how this sense of solitude can consume a person from within.
