Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “There There” by Crystal Tea
Автор: Crystal Tea

It’s no wonder Tokyo is one of the cities that streams Crystal Tea most. This song pulls no punches. “There There” kicks off with J-pop levels of frenetic energy – and even has similar vocal harmonies. It isn’t, however, a J-pop song.
This is rock n’ roll, through and through. The guitars are crunchy and abrasive, and their rhythm/lead guitar pairing is exceptional here. The bass line is punchy and rumbly and incredibly intricate. You can also tell that the drummer had an absolute blast recording this song. The cymbal hits are perfectly locked in with the rest of the band’s musical accents, showing that the drummer knows exactly what’s going on and is loving it, rolling in furious fills in between each section with glee.
We shouldn’t neglect Crystal Tea’s vocals, though. She maintains a perfect balance of bratty, punk angst and Korean indie vocal purity that’s hard to ignore. It’s a fun track from start to finish, due in large part to the magnetic and central vocal performance.
