Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Soul Mantra” by Magnet Brain

Normally we focus on genres of music being made in and around South Korea that don’t fall into the category of idol music. But the success and influence of the South Korean music industry are having effects on all of the Asian countries around it. So much so that today’s pick, Magnet Brain, is preparing a tour to South Korea.
Magnet Brain is the stage name of Mongolian pop songstress Margad Ganzorig. Her music is dancy, mysterious, and rife with meaning. This song, “Soul Mantra,” was written as a personal hype song to help her focus before performances. Soon, Margad learned that it was a blessing and benefit to others and helped hype and focus them before important events, so she released it to the world.
And what a release it has been! One of the catchiest, best-produced songs we’ve heard in a while, its music video is also positively stunning. With over 12 million views, there’s no reason why Magnet Brain shouldn’t be on everybody’s radar.
