Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Mammal Tree” by GoryMurgy

There’s a reason why GoryMurgy is being described as Seoul’s indie rock darlings. GoryMurgy takes garage rock, douses it in artsy reverb, and dials the energy up to eleven and makes it anthemic. “Mammal Tree” is a perfect example of their sound, leaning into the grunginess of the recording process and keeping things hyper-DIY sounding. There’s a reason why the band refers to themselves as “For now, the lo-est-fi band in South Korea.”

Don’t let the DIY descriptor turn you away, though. The chorus is catchy as all get out, with gang vocals galore. It’s really fun.
