Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Honey Tea” by OOHYO

Today’s track is a slick blend of bossa nova guitar, jazzy harmonies, and straight ahead folk rock. The straight drums on “Honey Tea” by OOHYO – roomy, muted, and brushed – gently subvert the expectations you’d likely have if you’d heard the guitar first. It’s a great blend of styles. The bass grooves while still feeling raw and lightly fuzzy. 

 

That stands at odds with OOHYO herself, whose vocals are sultry, sweet and mysteriously feminine. Great harmonies abound in “Honey Tea,” and OOHYO’s delivery is phenomenal across the board. This also has one of the best e-piano solos of all time, plus some surprise Spanish-style guitar at the climax.
