Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “A Long Dream” by SE SO NEON

Throwing it back to 2017 to shine some light on one of our favorite indie tracks of all time. ”A Long Dream” features tight, punchy drum production paired with loops and samples. In hindsight, this choice was way, way ahead of its time. This kind of punchy-and-dry-at-all-costs percussion choice wouldn’t hit mainstream Western pop until 2020. 

 

SE SO NEON pairs this drum production with deliciously detuned guitars, chorusy synths, and groovy bass. It feels like indie pop until the bridge, when the space changes suddenly. Everything gets more washy. The drums get roomier. The synths feel further away. And everything locks together in epic half time. It’s such a good track.
