Yu Junwon cancels Japanese fan meeting amidst controversy

In a sad turn of events, Yu Junwon's much-anticipated fan meeting in Japan has hit a snag, ultimately leading to its cancellation.

The organizers of Yu Junwon's Japan fan meeting made an official announcement through their website on June 7, revealing the unfortunate news. Originally slated to take place at KT ZEPP Yokohama and Zepp Namba on July 5 and 7 respectively, the event was set to be a thrilling experience for fans.

However, the excitement turned sour amidst controversy surrounding Yu Junwon's involvement in Phunky Studio's Boy Fantasy - After School Excitement Season 2. The production company Phunky Studio publicly confirmed suspicions that Yu Junwon was clandestinely planning a fan meeting in Japan, sparking discussions of potential legal action. With Yu Junwon's plea for an injunction against Phunky Studio over his exclusive contract dismissed, allegations arose that hosting such an event would constitute a violation of contractual terms.

Phunky Studio did not mince words, labeling the situation as "an act without any conscience towards the Fantasy Boys members,” and even hinted at forthcoming complaints to Korean Entertainment Management Association and the Korean Entertainment Producers Association.

Digging deeper into the contractual landscape, it was revealed that Yu Junwon is under the management of Apple Monster Entertainment. Known for its contributions to various broadcasts, including Mnet's 'Queen's Puzzle', as well as organizing concerts and fan meetings for numerous artists, Apple Monster Entertainment found itself embroiled in this legal tangle.

Yu Junwon won the top spot on MBC's audition program Boy Fantasy - After School Excitement Season 2 with plans of debuting as part of the group Fantasy Boys. However, conflicts soon marred the path to stardom, revolving around issues like profit distribution adjustments and unauthorized team departures. Despite Yu Junwon's attempts to seek legal recourse with an injunction against Phunky Studio concerning his exclusive contract, he was unsuccessful.

As the dust settles, attention now shifts to the looming legal battle, with the first trial date for the staggering 30 billion KRW (21.8 million USD) damages lawsuit filed by Phunky Studio against Yu Junwon set for June 27, 2024.
