JYP Entertainment’s K-band Xdinary Heroes has announced the release of their ninth mini album, IMPULSE, scheduled for October 12, 2026.

Throughout September 21, a mood film, comeback poster and scheduler were shared on the group’s official social media channels. Across all three, one theme remains consistent: the desire to break the rules.

The comeback poster depicts an art piece in a museum, which lists the title IMPULSE in mixed typography and gradually disrupted font. Beneath it, instead of the usual warning to stand back, is the opposing instruction to “PLEASE CROSS THE LINE.” On the left side of the scheduler, a series of imperative instructions scramble typical rules with messages such as “Break the Silence,” “Loud Voices Accepted,” “DO NOT HOLD BACK” and “DON’T FIGHT ME.” Each is layered and distorted by blurs and there is a varied style in the language used, between capitalised and lowercase letters and between “DO NOT” and “DON’T.” All symbolise a level of rebellion against expectations in style and action.

The IMPULSE mood film establishes the narrative behind these design choices. The black and white video is centred around desire and money. Scenes depict bidding, betting, and financial loss, all surrounding a system that appears to allow the members to purchase experiences such as playing a guitar and taking a phone call. At the beginning, it claims that desire is “what moves people.” By the end, more text outlines that desire as futile, as “it’s not the object being sold. It’s us.” It presents the background to a rebellion, driven by desire and the realisation of its cost. This storyline adds to the previous narratives taken on by Xdinary Heroes, who repeatedly face different elements of internal conflict in their lyrics.

IMPULSE will be the first release since the band’s former drummer Gunil departed from Xdinary Heroes last month. In their official statement, the agency promised “unwavering support” for the remaining five members and their future activities. Fans were uncertain as to what those activities would look like given Gunil’s role as the group’s leader and drummer and the subsequent cancellation of the 3RD FANMEETING <THE X-TOWN>. Their only performance since Gunil’s removal involved a session drummer as a short-term solution. The new release will mark a new chapter for the group as they introduce their first project and promotional period as a five-piece.

According to the scheduler, several images and video teasers as well as an interactive website will be shared online prior to the release of IMPULSE on October 12, providing more clues as to their approach.
