WOODZ is back. The singer-songwriter and self-styled rockstar has released I’ll Never Love Again, a two-track single that marks his first new music since finishing military service. Out now on all streaming platforms, it finds him leaning into both heartbreak and defiance, cutting a path that feels bruised but unafraid.
The comeback follows an unlikely resurgence earlier this year when his 2023 track “Drowning” (from the album OO-LI) suddenly climbed back to No. 1 on Korean charts while he was still enlisted. That moment reminded listeners just how much his music sticks, even without promotion. Now, I’ll Never Love Again picks up that thread, offering something heavier, darker and intent on showing the edges of his voice and songwriting.
The title track begins softly – a lone organ line – before it unravels into crashing drums and guitar. WOODZ sings like he’s standing on the edge of a cliff, his voice cracking then rising, until a choir rushes in to back him. It’s a sound that lands somewhere between grief and release, and the accompanying video keeps the same tone: cinematic, bleak, yet searching for light.
On the flip side is “Smashing Concrete,” first teased in July with a visualiser. Here he turns to blistering alt-metal, folding rap verses into shouted hooks over serrated riffs. The point is simple: push through, break down what’s in your way. It’s harsh and cathartic, like a wall being kicked in.
With these two tracks, WOODZ doesn’t just return – he makes clear he’s willing to take risks that cut across genres. I’ll Never Love Again isn’t tidy or safe. It’s a reminder of why he’s one of Korea’s most unpredictable and emotionally direct artists.
