WINNER: Refreshing and Unique

The K-pop world can feel stale with music produced by the same person over and over. But WINNER aims to take over the K-pop world with a refreshing breath of new music, utilizing a blend of genres, self-production, and amazing visuals.

WINNER debuted under YG Entertainment on August 17, 2014, after winning the survival show WIN: Who is Next in 2013. Following Taehyun’s departure from the group in 2016, WINNER is now a four-member boy group comprised of Yoon, Jinu, Hoony, and Mino. This early exposure through WIN and performances with Big Bang and 2NE1 helped establish a reputation for the band before they even debuted.

Some people say WINNER has a summery feeling about them, calling them “Kings of Summer.” This is because their music blends hip-hop, pop, EDM, R&B, and pop, disco, and more. There’s no restriction in genre in their music, making their music bright and refreshing.

WINNER isn’t afraid to experiment with their visuals and concepts. Their MVs add artistic depth to their songs. For example “REALLY REALLY” has amazing visuals—from the B&W overlay to the costumes to the choreography to the backgrounds.

WINNER’s members are also known for being amazing self-producers. Between choreography and composing and writing their music, WINNER is heavily involved in their music production. While all five members have been involved in the creation of at least five songs in WINNER’s discography, Yoon has produced the bulk of their music. For example, Yoon both wrote and composed “Color Ring,” which is hugely expressive and emotional.

The group has also been heavily involved in endorsements and philanthropy. Overall, WINNER brings a refreshing feeling to the K-pop scene through their blend of genres, self-production, and experimentation.
