VICTON: Like No One Else

VICTON, a boy group formed by IST Entertainment in 2016, stands out in the K-pop scene for their diverse talents and unique trajectory. The group's original septet configuration, featuring Han Seung-woo, Kang Seung-sik, Lim Se-jun, Do Han-se, Choi Byung-chan, Jung Su-bin, and former member Heo Chan, made their debut with the EP Voice to New World. VICTON hit the group running, as the group had massive amounts of pre-debut experience; members performed as back-up dancers and recorded backing vocals for label-mates Apink and Huh Gak, showcasing their early integration into the K-pop industry.
VICTON's journey to debut was documented in the reality show Me & 7 Men, which provided fans with a behind-the-scenes look at their preparation. Their debut EP, Voice to New World, released alongside their reality show finale, featured dual title tracks "I'm Fine" and "What Time Is It Now?", instantly making a name for themselves with their compelling performance and musical versatility. The members' personal involvement in the production process, especially in their second EP Ready where Hanse contributed to the rap parts and Chan and Seungwoo co-created choreography, highlights their hands-on approach to their artistry.
The group's continuous growth was evident with the release of their third and fourth EPs, Identity and From. VICTON, respectively. Their sophomore EP Ready, with its futuresynth lead single "Eyez Eyez", marked a shift towards a more mature and charismatic image. Their ability to diversify musically and visually resonated with audiences and critics alike, establishing VICTON as a group capable of evolving their style while maintaining a strong identity.
In 2018, VICTON embarked on a unique busking project, performing across various locations in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, connecting directly with fans through intimate performances. Their single album Time of Sorrow topped charts in Japan, despite not having officially debuted there, demonstrating their international appeal. The group's participation in the reality show Produce X 101, although challenging, brought additional attention, particularly with Seungwoo joining the boy group X1.

VICTON's comeback as a six-member group with the EP Nostalgia in 2019 marked a turning point, earning them their first music show win with "Nostalgic Night". The group's subsequent releases, including the EP Continuous and single album Mayday, showcased their resilience and ability to captivate audiences despite lineup changes and personal challenges. Seungwoo's solo debut and Hanse's solo mixtape project further highlighted their individual talents. VICTON's innovative approach to album releases, including environmentally conscious versions and their first full studio album Voice: The Future Is Now, underscored their commitment to sustainability and artistry.

In 2022, despite Chan's departure, VICTON continued to innovate with Chronograph and Chaos. The group's participation in various charitable projects and their strategic approach to music releases, such as their soundtrack contribution to Business Proposal, reflects their adaptability and commitment to their craft. Currently, the members navigate military service and contract renewals, and although it feels like the group may have ‘soft disbanded,’ fans are still eager to see what each of the members does going forward.
