TWICE

<THIS IS FOR> World Tour and The End of an Era

By Isabel Miller

On July 19, 2025, JYP Entertainment girl group TWICE opened their <THIS IS FOR> World Tour at Incheon’s Inspire Arena. A year on, the group returned to South Korea for three consecutive encore shows at Seoul’s KSPO Dome from July 10 to July 12, 2026 – drawing the tour to a conclusion at 44 cities visited across 4 continents and a total run of 81 shows.

The <THIS IS FOR> World Tour has not only broken records for TWICE themselves, becoming the highest grossing tour of their careers, but makes a permanent mark in K-pop’s history as the largest attended tour by a female K-pop act in North America. It also stands as pioneering in terms of production, with a 360-degree stage design.

These achievements will no doubt become a major part of TWICE’s legacy. But what is it that made this tour so successful, and what does its conclusion mean for the group going forward?

TWICE debuted on October 20, 2015 with their first mini album The Story Begins, led by its title-track “Like Ooh-Ahh.” Formed from the JYP Entertainment survival show Sixteen, the group has consisted of nine members throughout the entirety of their activities so far: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Since then, TWICE have released over 30 physical and digital albums across Korea, Japan and the U.S..

They are widely recognised as one of the best-selling girl groups of all-time, beyond even the K-pop sphere, and have been credited for playing a substantial role in expanding the genre internationally. Domestically, they have set records for the highest physical album sales, and have previously held records for the most consecutive number 1 songs on the Gaon (now Circle) Digital Chart. Overseas, they became the first K-pop girl group to have several albums place in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, and to this day remain the K-pop girl group to have received the most entries on the same chart – a record cemented by their most recent release, the 10-year anniversary special TEN: The Story Goes On.

During those 10 years, TWICE have led six concert tours, four of which on a worldwide scale. The <THIS IS FOR> World Tour is the largest and highest grossing of the six, and reflects the dedication and growth of TWICE as artists on an individual and group basis. Its success as an isolated series can be accredited to reasons both technical and sentimental.

Firstly, the production of the <THIS IS FOR> World Tour was pioneering within the K-pop industry, and its impact has already been seen. JYP Entertainment partnered with Moment Factory to create a 360-degree stage design, complete with LCD screens and raising platforms, allowing fans to view the show at all angles. With a centre stage and two extended stages, fans could get closer than ever from the stands for a fully immersive experience. The design also allowed for new choreography formations, constant movement, and for unique choices to be made when it came to each member’s solo performance. Props like Dahyun’s piano as well as various groups of back-up dancers were all moved around seamlessly without interruption as fans’ focus shifted between opposite sides of the room, meaning that the different styles of each song could flourish unhindered.

Following the reveal of this staging for <THIS IS FOR>, further use of 360-stages has already been seen during BTS’ reunion tour ‘ARIRANG,’ placing TWICE at the forefront of the enhancement of live performances and giving this staging choice a historical significance within the industry.

Secondly, the scale of the tour was unprecedented. With more opportunities to attend worldwide, especially in locations not previously included in TWICE touring schedules or K-pop touring schedules overall, the numbers of spectators increased dramatically. One instance that particularly displays the impact of TWICE’s expanded touring schedule is their two shows in Kaohsiung, their first performances in Taiwan, which received 110,000 attendees despite the new location. In North America (550,000 attendees) and Oceania (50,000 tickets sold), TWICE set records for the most attended tour by a female K-pop act and the best-selling arena tour by a K-pop act respectively. In Japan, they became the first foreign artist to headline a concert at the Japan National Stadium, with 240,000 attendees across three nights. Each showcases their ever-increasing popularity across the globe.

And finally, the sentimental value of the <THIS IS FOR> World Tour is immense. Taking place across TWICE’s 10-year anniversary, the tour acts as a commemoration of their achievements over the past decade and the long-standing loyalty of their fans, who rallied to support them worldwide.

The true extent of its sentimentality is still gradually being revealed, as discussions over contract renewals continue ahead of the expiry of each TWICE member’s exclusive partnership with JYP Entertainment in 2027. At present, Tzuyu, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung in particular have come up consistently in news articles reporting possible individual agency contracts. Two things that have also remained consistent throughout these articles, however, are that nothing has yet been finalized, and that TWICE reportedly intend to continue to participate in group activities no matter which direction they choose to go in with solo projects.

The record-breaking success of the <THIS IS FOR> World Tour offers fans hope that TWICE will continue, as they are evidently still at the peak of their careers. What is certain is that no matter what that continuation will look like, <THIS IS FOR> stands as a milestone venture in the expansion of the K-pop industry and will form a key chapter within the group’s legacy as one of the greatest girl groups in K-pop.
