The Weird, Wild, and Wonderful: Exploring the World of K-pop Mashups pt. 2

As we explained last time, mashups combine the elements of two or more songs together to make a new track and have been a staple of music for decades at this point. YouTube, Soundcloud, and TikTok have helped push the mashup as an art form into a new golden age, and now almost everyone has access to the tools to make your wildest dreams come true.

Once again, the phenomenon isn’t limited to pop or electronic music either, as there are numerous mashups of every genre, including (you guessed it) K-pop. So today we’re looking at ten more of the most exciting, interesting, unique, and downright weird mashups involving K-pop tracks.

Bad Boy x Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince (Red Velvet x Taylor Swift)

Now this would be the girl-power collab of the century!

That’s What I Like x OMG (Bruno Mars x NewJeans)

NewJeans have had everyone entranced with their effortlessly cool grooves, so what happens when you add another effortlessly groovy artist? Magic. That’s what.

OH MY GOD x PRECIOUS x SCREAM x LIE  ((G)I-DLE x ATEEZ x DREAMCATCHER x JIMIN)

As one commenter put it, “this is what multi-fandom feels like.” The mashup is an epic, cinematic masterpiece combining the darkest and most epic moments from each song. And the video is pretty good too!

NEXT LEVEL x GIMME MORE (aespa x Britney Spears)

Think aespa couldn’t get more sultry, fiery, and powerful? Think again because it’s Britney b****.

Kill This Love x Judas (BLACKPINK x Lady Gaga)

This one has a bit more of a subtle vibe to it, but you have to wonder if either group saw this mashup and decided they should totally work together later.

Pink Venom x Mixed Signals (BLACKPINK x REZZ)

This one is less than two minutes long, but it’s super effective at showing off what BLACKPINK would sound like if they teamed up with the mother of space bass herself, REZZ. Don’t get me wrong, “Pink Venom” already has an edge, but this turns it straight-up deadly.

뚜두뚜두 (DDU-DU DDU-DU) x MIC DROP (BLACKPINK x BTS)

For the third BLACKPINK mashup in a row, we give you the clash of the titans. Two of K-pop’s biggest names in one place.

Dynamite x Barbie Girl (BTS x Aqua)

Forget Barbenheimer, this is the crossover you never knew you needed.

My Universe x Midnight City (Coldplay & BTS x M83)

This one will get stuck in your head. I can almost promise it. That’s just what happens when you have two extremely catchy songs from three incredibly talented artists. Also the sax solo gave me chills.

Cupid x DPS (Fifty Fifty x Weird Genius)

The other great thing about mashups is it lets us imagine some truly unique cross-cultural collaborations. Indonesian electronic pop with K-pop? Yes. Please.
