Sees KATSEYE, Stray Kids, and JENNIE Take On New York

This year’s Governors Ball (often abbreviated to GovBall), held in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York City, took place this weekend from Friday 5 June to Sunday 7 June 2026. Notably, the line-up featured a K-pop (or K-pop adjacent) act on each of the three days, and saw K-pop positioned centre-stage as Stray Kids and JENNIE headlined the Saturday and Sunday.

On Friday afternoon, HYBE x Geffen’s KATSEYE took to the stage in bright neon outfits for an hour-long set. The five-piece performed a setlist spanning previously released hits including "Gabriella" and "Internet Girl," B-sides such as "Tonight I Might" and "I'm Pretty," and "Pinky Up," the viral pre-release single from their upcoming 'WILD' EP. Manon remains absent due to an indefinite hiatus.

KATSEYE’s participation signals further expansion into the American market as a global girl-group, though they still highlight the increased presence of K-pop at international events; the group was formed under the K-pop-focused HYBE as part of a K-pop-inspired training programme and survival show, with highly choreographed performances seen on South Korean music shows.

JYP Entertainment boy group Stray Kids were the last act to perform on Saturday, as headliners of the GovBall Festival. This marks their first performance in America since their record-breaking <dominATE> World Tour – and their position as headliners of the event reflects its success. Though an incoming storm disrupted the day’s schedule and forced the group to perform several hours earlier than planned with a slightly reduced running time, they delivered a setlist consisting of eighteen songs. Iconic hits “God’s Menu,” “MANIAC” and “Chk Chk Boom” made the cut, as did some unexpected older tracks – such as a remixed version of the fan-favorite 2019 title track “Side Effects.”

Finally, on Sunday, JENNIE closed out GovBall 2026 as the first K-pop soloist to headline the festival. Her performance included her 2024 hit “Mantra,” various B-sides such as “One Of The Girls” and “Seoul City,” and collaborations such as “Dracula (JENNIE Remix)” created with Tame Impala, before the set ended with the boisterous energy of “like JENNIE.” The experience was elevated by stellar visuals, pyrotechnics and, of course, her own incredible vocals and choreography, where JENNIE delivered an energetic show despite further weather delays following the overnight storm.

The Governors Ball Music Festival is the biggest music festival held in Queens, New York City each year, with three stages and 60+ artists. Each year, the event has increasingly featured global names, and K-pop continues to appear here and at other highly anticipated events in North America. This speaks to K-pop’s ongoing mainstream infiltration – beyond the increase of artists’ own tours across the continent, K-pop acts are now being chosen as guaranteed sellers alongside mainstream American acts for events outside of the K-pop niche. Crucially, they are successfully maintaining crowds, finding a place at these events and consistently proving to be correct decisions on the part of festival organisers – which only increases anticipation for further growth.
