TARGET: The group that just missed the bullseye

TARGET is one of those rare K-pop groups that started off with a debut in Japan. Formed under TNS Entertainment, TARGET debuted in Japan in December 2017 with the single “Atsui Omoi”. It was only in January 2018 that the group steered their darts home and debuted with the mini-album Alive. At the time, the group consisted of seven members - G.I, Zeth, Hyun, Seulchan, Boun, Woojin and Roi. The group won the Next Rising Star of Asia award at the 8th DaraDaily Awards in 2018. Currently, the group is said to be active with KJ Entertainment in South Korea and JSL Company in Japan.

The group’s most recent comeback was the Korean single album S the P: Story the Planet in 2019. Seulchan later left the group on January 16, 2020. He went onto debut as SHUN in the now-disbanded group XEED. Boun and Woojin left the group in 2021. In 2022, Boun made a solo debut with the single “One Self.” Woojin proceeded to try his hand at dancing with 1Million Dance Studio and also a short stint in acting, whereas G.I. is currently on a hiatus while enlisted in the military at the moment.

What remains a mystery is that the fans are kept in the dark about the group’s actual status. Fans are still unaware of TARGET’s next target. The group’s social media hasn’t been active for over three years now. The last post on the group’s Instagram was a promo for member Zeth’s solo song “remember.” Fans suspect that the remaining active members quietly exited the group to pursue their music-related activities elsewhere.

If the group has truly parted ways and disbanded, it would be easy for everyone to make an official announcement.  While the solo activities of the members are not hidden from the world, there is also a tiny hope amongst the fans that the group might come together one day. It is also a little heartbreaking to see a rookie group come and go without as much as making a wave in the industry.
